no offense Ruth

I finally saw the new Pride and Predjudice, and I have to say that was one of the WORST adaptations I've ever seen. I knew going in that it could never hold a candle to the BBC version, because they had done it to absolute perfection. However, I was hoping for the gentle and thoughtful such as they had done with Sense and Sensibility and Emma. In both of those they were forced to simplify and shorten, but there was a noticable effort by the screen writers and the actors to keep Austen's prose intact. I'll even say that both movies had been well cast. (though I had my doubts of Gwyneth Paltrow's abilities she surprised me) The end result being that Jane Austen's story was the highlight of the movie.
This Pride and Predjudice had NONE of those attributes. The only actor who even tried to make the character more than its surface value was the actor who played Darcy.(however he made Darcy a rather weaker character in my opinion so there is no need to remember his name) The rest of the players quite frankly just sucked. It was like they watched the BBC version and tried unsuccessfully to imitate them. Elizabeth Bennent lost all her intelligence, grace, and wit in the hands of a 3rd rate actress who plays EVERY role the same her performance of Lizzie was the same as the bounty hunter, pirate lover, and soccer player.
The screen write felt no need to keep most of the original prose and interjected explainations EVERYWHERE. What was with Charlotte's scene in the barnyard??? It was like watching Jane Austen for dummies.
To add to this violating of one of the best stories ever written was an over zealous cinematographer who fill up most of the time with pretty but useless shots. And for some reason they thought it best to make the Bennets look truly poor despite the fact that they were just poor in inheritance. The house and family looked absolutely slovenly!
All in all a horrible movie Keira Knightly should be banned from movies for that.
